FIA Cyber Crime Wing Lodhran made a high-profile arrest of Dania Shah, the widow of renowned televangelist Aamir Liaquat, during a raid conducted yesterday, according to officials. The arrest was made in connection with an alleged controversial video uploaded on social media. The complainant in this case is said to be the daughter of the late TV anchor person.
The circumstances surrounding Dania's arrest were met with some confusion and distress. According to her mother, Salma Bibi, law enforcement officials entered their house abruptly and took her daughter into custody. Salma expressed her frustration, stating that despite visiting the police station, she had not received any information about the charges, and Dania was not present at the station either.
The passing of Aamir Liaquat, who was a dissident of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and a member of the National Assembly, had already caused shockwaves within the media industry. His death on June 9 in Karachi was surrounded by mystery, and many blamed social media trolls who had relentlessly targeted the prominent TV host due to his controversial third marriage.
Following his demise, Liaquat's body was received by his son, and the funeral proceedings were conducted by Chippa. He was laid to rest in a graveyard located within the premises of the Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine in Clifton, Karachi.
Subsequently, a controversy arose regarding the exhumation of Aamir Liaquat's body to determine the cause of death. However, the court ruled against conducting the procedure, and it was consequently not carried out.
