Mass Exodus of Leaders: PTI Chairman Imran Khan's Arrest Triggers Resignations and Protests

In a stunning turn of events, the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case on May 9 has set off a chain reaction that has led to a mass exodus of leaders from the former ruling party. The aftermath of Khan's arrest was marked by violent protests, during which unruly supporters and workers stormed and torched state installations across the country. The protests lasted for nearly three days, resulting in the loss of at least eight lives and injuring dozens of others. To restore law and order, the incumbent coalition government suspended internet services and deployed army troops.

The unprecedented attacks on defense and public properties prompted the authorities to launch a crackdown on the PTI and apprehend the suspects involved in the vandalism. The country's top civil-military leadership vowed to try the rioters under the relevant laws, including the Army Act.

Since then, a significant number of PTI leaders, including close aides of Imran Khan, have announced their resignation from the party, with some blaming Khan's policies for the attacks on military installations.
