Hundreds of thousands of Muslim pilgrims swarmed Mount Arafat on a scorching Tuesday, their white garments creating a mesmerizing sea of devotion against the backdrop of the blazing sun. The mercury soared to an astonishing 48°C, testing the endurance of the faithful who had gathered at the pinnacle of their spiritual journey, the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

As the sun set on the day of Arafat, the worshippers prepared for the next leg of their spiritual odyssey. On the following day, known as Wednesday, they would engage in the symbolic and powerful act of stoning the devil. Gathering pebbles in their palms, each one representing an act of defiance against evil, they would hurl them with determined conviction at three concrete walls, physically rejecting the forces that seek to sow discord and temptation.

Having fulfilled this significant rite, the pilgrims would then make their way back to the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the holiest sanctuary of Islam. The imposing Kaaba, a black cubic structure, would greet them once again, as they undertook the final circumambulation—a profound ritual known as the Tawaf.
