Efforts to Secure Justice for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui Continue
In a significant development, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui's elder sister, Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui, met her after two decades at the FMC Carswell prison in Fort Worth, United States. Accompanied by British attorney Clive Stafford Smith, the meeting marked the beginning of a long-awaited journey for justice. Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan shared the news, emphasizing that Dr. Aafia Siddiqui has been conceded the right to meet her family.
The emotional meeting between the sisters lasted for two and a half hours, taking place in a room separated by a thick glass wall. Dr. Fauzia was not permitted to touch her sister or show her pictures of Dr. Aafia's children. Describing the encounter, Dr. Fauzia revealed that Dr. Aafia appeared in a beige jail dress and a white scarf.
However, it was evident that Dr. Aafia's condition is not good. It took nearly an hour for her to express the daily challenges she faces. She had been eagerly waiting to meet her mother and children, unaware that their mother had passed away nearly a year ago. Dr. Aafia also suffered physical harm, including the loss of her front teeth and a scar on her head from an assassination attempt while in prison. These injuries have caused difficulties in her hearing.
Dr. Fauzia highlighted that Dr. Aafia has been subjected to various torturous techniques to force her to reveal information she does not possess. Although some information was shared during the meeting, many mysteries surrounding her situation remain. Further meetings, including one with Senator Mushtaq Ahmad, are planned to shed more light on the matter.
Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan reiterated his commitment to leaving no stone unturned in securing Dr. Aafia Siddiqui's release from prison. He has been meeting numerous individuals to raise awareness about the hardships she faces. The senator called on the Pakistani nation to rally for justice for Dr. Aafia and emphasized the need to raise the issue diplomatically with the American government.
Efforts to secure justice for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui continue, as her reunification with her sister after 20 years serves as a significant step forward in shedding light on her plight.
